Tej The deal was the product of partnerships across numerous teams in retail solutions, procurement platforms, the AWS cloud, and the MasterCraft platform, according to Paul Bhatla, business leader, public services - India, TCS.
“This deal was truly a ‘One TCS' example, where teams from different solutions collaborated,” said Bhatla, without disclosing the deal's financials. The company will spend 18-21 months in transitioning from the incumbent platform vendor and implementing the changes. Post that, it will run and maintain the platform for another five years, he said. TCS had identified a team of 14 leaders to submit the bid and present the solution to the GeM management.
GeM Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), a fully owned government corporation operating under the Department of Commerce, launched the marketplace platform on August 9, 2016, and it currently manages it. Currently, Tata Communications, Intellect Design Arena, and Infibeam are operating it as a group.
“A part of what we will earn from this is actually linked to the GMV, the actual volume of business getting transacted on the platform...Of course, we made some assumptions from a budgeting perspective, but it will be a combination of fixed plus variable metrics,” he said, adding there is a target to achieve 3 trillion GMV by the end of next year.
