FREMONT, CA: HP and PCMS have introduced a ‘Hot docking’ Point of Sale (PoS) solution to support better customer interaction in a retail store. It consists of HP MX10 Retail Solution which is built on PCMS Vision BeanStore software.

The Hot Docking enabled solution was built up from the limitations of traditional devices and peripherals; they have used device drivers that get locked down and 'claimed' once the peripheral loads the device driver. The other problem caused by them is that, once the tablet is disconnected from the peripheral by undocking it, it needs to be re-initialised by rebooting or re-starting the PoS application and driver.

The Hot Docking Pos solution keeps the device driver layer active when the tablet is being un-docked so that the drivers are automatically re-initialized on re-docking, and can be used without any further intervention. It, thereby, functions as a mobile as well as fixed PoS solution and facilitates easy transition between the two.

HP’s product consists of HP ElitePad Mobile POS Solution integrated into the HP Retail expansion Dock, and a retail jacket that includes barcode imaging scanner, hand strap and three track bi-directional magnetic stripe reader. At the core of this is PCMS’ software that is built on retail-specific java infrastructure, provides system-wide updates from a central database and its platform and OS independence ensures greater viability.
